Where folklore meets functional ceramics
Amanda Shourounis is a San Francisco–based ceramic artist whose work feels like a love letter to the natural world.
After beginning her career as an art teacher, Amanda made the leap to working with clay full time in 2022. This shift has allowed her deep curiosity and observation of nature to fully come alive in her practice.
Rooted in an ongoing exploration of plants and animals across varied environments, Amanda’s ceramics are rich with texture and detail. Mushrooms curl and cluster, wave surfaces ripple and grow, and some pieces even hold their own little ecosystem. Her work reflects a sense of wonder and attentiveness, the kind that comes from really noticing the beauty and complexity that can be found during a simple walk in nature.
